Welcome

to Porfyron Heritage Hotel

Our heritage hotel has been a beacon of Epirotic hospitality since 2005, establishing itself in Ano Pedina, one of the 46 traditional villages in the Zagori region.

Recognized and protected by the Greek Ministry of Culture and UNESCO for its pristine nature, architecture, and cultural significance. The identity of our hotel lies in the name Porfyron, meaning dark red in Greek.

Being the only building traditionally painted with this color in the village, it emerges in beautiful contrast out of the rough stone landscape of the mountains. It captivates with elevated aesthetics, organic textures, natural surroundings, and classical interiors.
We invite you to discover the soul of this untouched part of Greece with us.

Our Philosophy

A comfortable bed, delicious local and organic food, and the stunning beauty of nature, these are the simple yet powerful elements we use to create unforgettable and meaningful experiences. Our philosophy is to connect our guests with the culture, traditions, and ecology of this region, offering a genuine and humble taste of mountain life in Greece.

We stubbornly resist the fast, disposable, and unsustainable habits of modern tourism and try to stay true to the nostalgic ways of the past.  We choose slowness, authenticity, and intention. Here, we unplug and reconnect with the land, the community, and the quiet wisdom of a slower pace of life.

During the Byzantine Empire, the title “Porphyrogenitus” (meaning “born in the purple”) was given to the sons and daughters of the emperor born in a specific room within the imperial palace of Constantinople. The walls, floors, and ceiling of this room were adorned with porphyry, a rare, red-hued stone imported from Egypt.

While no one is born in red today, there are still those who have “slept in red.” They journeyed to Ano Pedina and experienced the warm hospitality of Porfyron.
